Day 1
Arrival
Arrival in Johannesburg. Spend the night in Johannesburg for those who arrive in the evening and then head for Upington in the morning. Situated in the Kalahari Desert region of northern South Africa, Upington is the ancestral home of the Khoi-Khoi tribe.
It will take approximately 45 minutes to drive from Upington to the enchanting Khamkirri, nestled along the banks of the majestic Orange River, just upstream from South Africa’s largest waterfall, Augrabies. As the river meanders towards the vast Atlantic Ocean, it carves through granite cliffs and desert sands, creating a stunning landscape.
In the afternoon, we’ll embark on a scenic hike to a captivating vantage point. From this elevated spot, you’ll witness the river in all its glory as it cascades towards the falls, offering a breathtaking view of nature’s grandeur.
Upon a mesmerizing balcony with a panoramic view of the river, we will indulge in sundowners and savor a traditional South African braai as the sun gracefully sets over the desert landscape. As the first stars emerge, a twilight swim awaits us in the Riemvasmaak hot springs, fostering a tranquil ambiance for an extraordinary night of stargazing.
Day 2 – 4
Augrabies –Orange River Rafting

Embarking on the second day of our exhilarating rafting expedition up the Orange River, we’ll navigate the awe-inspiring Ritchie Falls, conquer thrilling rapids, and be captivated by the majestic canyon rock formations that adorn our journey.
Day 3
Venturing further into the adventure, we’ll plunge into a breathtaking canyon, bravely confronting the heart-pounding Grade 3+ rapids like “Big Bunny” and “Dolly Parton.” Surrounded by towering mountains, the excitement peaks, and as we emerge from the gorge, the serenity of the river awaits us to continue our tranquil rafting voyage.
Overnight stays in tents, carefully pitched along the serene riverbanks, offer us a unique opportunity to forge a deeper connection with nature, immersing ourselves in its unspoiled beauty.
Day 4
Our final day commences with a hearty breakfast before we descend to the river, savoring the last moments amidst the splendor of the Kalahari Desert and the enchanting Orange River. Wrapping up our unforgettable rafting adventure, we bid farewell to our guides after a satisfying lunch. It’s off to Letatsi Lodge, our next thrilling destination in the heart of Namaqualand. The Red Ox’s dinner is ideal for rounding off another traditional African day.
Day 5
Letatsi Adventure: Cederberg Canyoning at Sandrift Reserve
Embarking on our journey southward, we’re greeted by the awe-inspiring Sutherland mountain range. After approximately three and a half hours of travel, we’ll embark on a brief hike leading us to a captivating array of granite ponds, inviting us to partake in refreshing swims and exhilarating abseiling experiences.
As the day draws to a close, we’ll be treated to an evening hosted by the “Boers,” the original white settlers of South Africa. A delectable home-cooked dinner awaits us, complemented by the indulgence of “Malva” pudding, a regional favorite.
Day 6
Exploring Wolfberg and The Big Cracks, Culminating in Stellenbosch
With an early start, we’ll relish a delightful breakfast and cookies while witnessing the enchanting sunrise on the fringes of Sandrift Farm. Our morning unfolds with a leisurely stroll through the mesmerizing “Wolfberg Cracks,” offering a glimpse of nature’s intricate beauty.
As the afternoon unfolds, we’ll return to Sandrift, setting our course toward Stellenbosch, often referred to as the African Provence and celebrated as the wine capital of South Africa. Culminating the day’s adventures, a sumptuous “Potjiekos” dinner awaits us at Van Der Stel’s farmhouse in the heart of Stellenbosch.
Day 7
Stellenbosch – Mountain Biking in Wine Farms – Khayelitsha Township Exploration – Cape Town
Commencing the day with a hearty breakfast at the farmhouse, our journey unfolds with an invigorating mountain biking escapade, winding through the picturesque vineyards and enchanting grapevines.
A midday interlude welcomes us to a scenic picnic featuring an array of delectable treats complemented by a delightful wine-tasting experience. Tailored to our younger companions, an abundance of scrumptious food options awaits.
In the afternoon, our path leads us to a local art center nestled in the vibrant Khayelitsha Township. This colorful community, born during apartheid and situated on the outskirts of major cities, offers a unique perspective on South Africa’s rich history.
As dusk settles, we make our way to the captivating city of Cape Town, positioned at the base of the iconic Table Mountain. Here, an exploration of the myriad wonders that Cape Town and its surroundings hold in store awaits us.
Day 8 – 10
Thrilling Adventures Around Cape Town
Prepare for two days brimming with excitement and adrenaline as we explore the diverse landscapes of Cape Town, catering to both adventurous spirits and nature enthusiasts.
Weather permitting, we’ll embark on a challenging hike up Table Mountain, treating ourselves to breathtaking panoramic views of Cape Town and its picturesque harbor. The descent promises an equally exhilarating experience as we enjoy a delightful cable car ride back down.
Our adventure continues with a unique opportunity to swim and snorkel alongside playful seals in Hout Bay. For those seeking a closer connection with nature, we’ll indulge in kayaking amidst the charming penguin colony. Additionally, a sunset hike up Lions Head awaits, offering a mesmerizing view that culminates in a perfect spot for sundowners.
Thrill-seekers will find their haven at “Boulders Beach,” where bouldering and cliff jumps into the refreshing water provide an adrenaline rush. We’ll also explore the Omega trails in Hout Bay, offering a blend of scenic landscapes and invigorating hikes.
